Website Optimization

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Creating Web sites today can be a daunting task. There are so many formats, techniques, and tricks that it’s easy to get carried away. A good Web designer/developer needs to know when to stop. In addition, they need to make sure the site is optimized in order to maximize the client’s investment. That’s where Web site optimization comes in.

Andrew King has published a new book to help you pull it all together. It’s called Website Optimization: Speed, Search Engine & Conversion Rate Secrets. King is the founder and former Managing Editor of WebReference.com and JavaScript.com. He’s currently the President of Website Optimization, LLC, a Web performance and search engine marketing firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

King’s new book is all about maximizing the return on the client’s investment in their Web site. It focuses on increasing conversion rates, and optimizing the site for search engines as well as speed. And it does a great job of it. The book is filled with case studies and examples, along with valuable tips and techniques for increasing the speed of your Web site, along with its conversion rate.
Search Engine Marketing Optimization

The first section analyzes well-tested methods for increasing your position on the search engines. Here, King begins with examining “core techniques” used with his own clients. First, search engine roadblocks are discussed, including splash pages, the use of Flash, improper navigation and duplicate content.

Next, those steps that will help to increase search engine rankings are examined. King looks at ten steps that go beyond Google’s PageRank method. These steps include the proper usage of keywords, writing effective page titles, meta description tags and headlines, creating keyword-focused content, and building good inbound links.

The section is rounded out with an in-depth study of pay-per-click (PPC) and conversion rate optimization. A case study is also included. These tips alone could help increase your ad revenue.
Web Performance Optimization

King has spent many years learning how to tweak and fine-tune Web sites for peak optimization. When he was the Managing Editor of WebReference.com he was constantly testing new methods and tweaking the site for speed. A lot of that knowledge comes together in this section.

The first chapter covers optimizing Web pages. These twenty pages cover topics such as reducing overweight graphics, the placement of CSS and JavaScript links for better page rendering, performance tips, reducing DNS lookups, and minimizing HTTP requests. There are nuggets of gold to be gleaned from this chapter. Don’t miss it!

Other chapters include CSS and Ajax optimization, along with more advanced techniques. These tips and techniques should help increase the visitor’s satisfaction by making the time on each page more usable, without having to wait for things to happen.

Finally, a chapter on Web site metrics is included. Here you’ll learn what metrics are and how to use them.

Conclusion

King has put together a valuable reference tool that should be included on the desk of every Web developer, designer and marketer. These procedures should help to make any Web site more effective and profitable. Check it out before your competition does.

The Big Red Fez

Monday, September 1st, 2008

This book is good to be read for whoever wants to build his/her site/blog to better direction and profitable method. I think Seth Godin’s opinion could still acceptable and could be applied well on our site/blog.

This book puts its main discussion on content mistaken and website layout, people seems to be less effectively arrange their site/blog content and layout, it seems to be bias and too many unimportant things on site/blog pages, thus site/blog purposes is not arrived well to visitors.

Although site/blog content classified to in great quantities, you have to be able to arrange those things in such a manner to direct visitors to your site/blog purposes (subscription/sales/download/etc). You have to make clear sign, mark for your direction to site/blog goal/purposes.

This pages that selling The Big Red Fez which its content relates to how to make any web site better. This pages purpose is to sell this book, you could see clearly “banana” which is offered is price box and add to shopping cart button. It is designed well to attract visitors to click and buy it.

Seth through this book wants to send his message to us as site/blog owner to fulfill visitors needs by imagine ourselves as those kinds of visitors. Visitors are people who want an ease to obtain whatever their need, that is news/services/products. Visitors will never want to be busy, they always want everything happen in quite short time, easy and served well from the beginning till the end.

Seth said this word in several times, “Don’t make it easy for you (website owner/web developer), and Make it easy for me (customer). For the example, when visitors facing registration form, he/she have to choose his/her country, website developer usually provide this in pull down menu, if your target visitors are the US citizens, why don’t you make United States as the default option. It would bring an ease to your visitors.

Seth emphasizing to accuracy, carefulness to all of site/blog owner to keep pay attention to site/blog pages, articles. Always do inspection to those things, don’t let it has error page, wrong page, etc; this might cause your products or services in low demand because your site/blog has low visitors. People won’t come back return to site/blog that have to many errors on it.

I think that’s all my opinion about this book. Please, feel free to buy this book and read and share your knowledge to other people.

Alexa Toolbar Has Much Influence to Search Engine

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Whether you have already known that Google Page Rank will be useless when it compares to Alexa Rank, and to know your Alexa Rank, you just have to install Alexa toolbar. The fact is, Alexa toolbar useful to help your website or blog indexed well in search engine, as well.

May be right now, you will download Alexa toolbar immediately, and it is big possibility that your anti virus will detect it as AdWare. Your anti virus is not wrong, Alexa toolbar work as well as spyware. It will monitor your activities on the web, it will remember any site that you visited and compile all information from those sites. These data will be sent to Alexa anonymously. These all information is compiled and used to give rank to the site.

Noteworthy, Alexa is not only the one who uses this information. Google uses data that comes from Alexa to index and giving rank, as well. Thus, install Alexa toolbar and browse your own site, obviously will help and accelerate your site to be indexed by Google. In addition, your surf manner also the important part to decide what are the important thing and the most popular thing in web world. Ultimately, will help to increase SERP.

Now, we know that Google use this kind of information, so it is normal to assume that other search engine like Yahoo, and MSN do the same thing ?

Alexa still remain as the most accurate resource until this time, and those reasons above is quite enough for me to activate this Alexa toolbar. Therefore, what are you waiting for, download it now, and see the difference of your website/blog next few months.

Do not wait too long to subscribe albachtimi feed, because you will get other useful article.

SEARCH ENGINE THAT SO POWERFUL

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

There are hundreds even thousands search engine in internet, and their capacity will always expand time to time. From that a lot number, only few of them have big influence to bring more traffic to your site. That is why, need your intelligence to choose the right one especially related to effectiveness and efficiency to reach your goal. Because non-popular site will not bring any effect to your site development. Moreover, registration process to the search engine services done one by one, well your time will be waste. Possibly will easier if you use registration application that will register your site to the search engine, there so many application like this in internet now.

This time, we try to talk about popular search engine in internet which is parameters get from one esteem side in internet, independent assessment like Alexa and PageRank. I take the latest data, may be it will be change later, I sure of it.

Lists which will be listed in this article are the search engine that really on the top position, and they are very popular to internet user all over the world. I suggest you to register/submit your site to this search engine. Whether it manually one by one, or with registration application.

I will show you search engine which not too popular in separate list, and there is no wrong to register/submit your site to this search engine too, especially to manually registration.

Some popular search engine like MSN, they don’t accept direct site registration, because they fetch site from search engine or directory services provider. Whatever case that you face and however the way, your site have to be registered to this international popular search engine.

Besides, every country have their own popular search engine in their region, at this article you can see one search engine that not too popular internationally but have large traffic and hits compared to other search engine. For example is Baidu, the search engine which more popular in China than Google

No. 1
Google
Website : http://www.google.com/
PageRank : 10
Alexa Rank : 3
Submit URL : www.google.com/addurl.html

Can be word there are no one who hesitate Google popularity at this time, mainly to put Google at position 1 in the world. Google is very powerful to use as search engine because they always give the best result page for user. If you could make your site shows at the top first page of Google search result page, absolutely will bring more traffic or visitors to your site. Google registration process is so easy, you just need to fill your site URL and then wait for crawler or their robot to visit your site. You can see that Google visit your site everyday.

No. 2
Yahoo
Website : http://www.yahoo.com/
PageRank : 9
Alexa Rank : 10
Submit URL : Register directly to their directory

Yahoo is the first search engine in internet, and the first search engine that used as the function itself, but lately Google has dominated, because Google more powerful pursuant the user that use it. For the traffic, Google still the one who have large traffic. Back to Yahoo, the registration process can be done manually, and it takes 1 till 2 weeks, besides they provide charge service. Because of the traffic to various services, which Yahoo has, it is very suggested to registered your site here at Yahoo.

No. 3
Open Directory
Website : http://www.dmoz.com/
PageRank : 9
Alexa Rank : 192
Submit URL : Register/Submit to the related category at their directory

Actually, this open directory is not the search engine, and the fact there only few people visit their site, especially to search for something. PageRank 9 means that the site has high popularity level, although the traffic only at 192 by Alexa. Do not be hesitate to register your site to this open directory project though I put them at position 3, because generally search engine referred to this ODP database to make site index.
If you register your site to this ODP, automatically your site will be known to by others popular search engine, such as MSN, Altavista, Alltheweb, etc. The registration process very easy, but it need long long time to be put in their database, lucky for you that the site has been approve to their database in four weeks, if not may be need more time longer. I very suggest registering your site here in Open directory Project.

Ugggh I am very tired and want to sleep… because it already late at night…. Hopefully this article can help you who need to optimize the site…. and keep check this blog for others information cause there are many information that I will put here down.

Enjoy it.
