Build Community Blog Using Wordpress

Build a community is a necessity, even unconditional disposed. If you still think that site/blog that based on community is not quite effective to earn more money compared to site/blog based on search engine, may be you need to brainwash action thus always update with current trend ? Try to reflect the reason by yourself.

I just want to describe about this. I take a simple sample, digg.com as outstanding web based on community with large number of visitors and returning visitor reach up to 50%. Try to imagine that Digg without rating system, no comment column, no karma, and what Digg is going to be? Whether Digg will be famous like now?

“So now, how to build blog based on community using Wordpress?”

I’ll give simple answer, use plugin! Actually this won’t be like Digg that allow user to write content, this matter can exactly we handle by our self. The needed plugin are:

Comments Plugin, comment is one important thing to build community, below are the lists:
- Plugin Brian’s latest Comment, this will shows the latest visitor’s comment.
- Brian’s Threaded Comments, this will change your comment look to threaded forum style.
- Karma Comment, this will allows visitor to rate all comments on our blog. Read this Karma Comment article for installation guide.
- Show Top Commentators, this will shows visitor that leave comment frequently.
- Subscribe to Comments, allows people to receive update comment via email to one specified post.
- Mungky Smile, Tuzki Smile, give your blog extra smile icon, Tuzki Smile is not supported WP 2.5.
- Comvatar and Comvatar Images, this will shows commentator’s avatar. Gravatar and Favatars is the similar plugins.
Rating System, this is unconditional for site/blog based on community or web 2.0 that allows people to participate giving opinion or giving rate about things that you inform.
- WP-Post ratings, the most famous plugin, you must be install it.
- Popularity Contest, will give your post a rank, it’s so easy to install.
Sharing and Subscribe System, this means we ask for others help to promote our blog and one of tools to attract loyal community.
- Share this, this will give an ease to visitor to bookmark our blog to hundreds social bookmarking site.
- What Would Seth Godin Do, this is one way to catch visitor’s subscription to our RSS feed.
- WP-Email, allows visitor to send our blog post to somebody else through email feature.

With all of those plugins above, we are ready to build community site/blog using Wordpress easily and free of charge. It is better than leave your blog with default plugins and default template as well.
