Website Optimization

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Creating Web sites today can be a daunting task. There are so many formats, techniques, and tricks that it’s easy to get carried away. A good Web designer/developer needs to know when to stop. In addition, they need to make sure the site is optimized in order to maximize the client’s investment. That’s where Web site optimization comes in.

Andrew King has published a new book to help you pull it all together. It’s called Website Optimization: Speed, Search Engine & Conversion Rate Secrets. King is the founder and former Managing Editor of WebReference.com and JavaScript.com. He’s currently the President of Website Optimization, LLC, a Web performance and search engine marketing firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

King’s new book is all about maximizing the return on the client’s investment in their Web site. It focuses on increasing conversion rates, and optimizing the site for search engines as well as speed. And it does a great job of it. The book is filled with case studies and examples, along with valuable tips and techniques for increasing the speed of your Web site, along with its conversion rate.
Search Engine Marketing Optimization

The first section analyzes well-tested methods for increasing your position on the search engines. Here, King begins with examining “core techniques” used with his own clients. First, search engine roadblocks are discussed, including splash pages, the use of Flash, improper navigation and duplicate content.

Next, those steps that will help to increase search engine rankings are examined. King looks at ten steps that go beyond Google’s PageRank method. These steps include the proper usage of keywords, writing effective page titles, meta description tags and headlines, creating keyword-focused content, and building good inbound links.

The section is rounded out with an in-depth study of pay-per-click (PPC) and conversion rate optimization. A case study is also included. These tips alone could help increase your ad revenue.
Web Performance Optimization

King has spent many years learning how to tweak and fine-tune Web sites for peak optimization. When he was the Managing Editor of WebReference.com he was constantly testing new methods and tweaking the site for speed. A lot of that knowledge comes together in this section.

The first chapter covers optimizing Web pages. These twenty pages cover topics such as reducing overweight graphics, the placement of CSS and JavaScript links for better page rendering, performance tips, reducing DNS lookups, and minimizing HTTP requests. There are nuggets of gold to be gleaned from this chapter. Don’t miss it!

Other chapters include CSS and Ajax optimization, along with more advanced techniques. These tips and techniques should help increase the visitor’s satisfaction by making the time on each page more usable, without having to wait for things to happen.

Finally, a chapter on Web site metrics is included. Here you’ll learn what metrics are and how to use them.

Conclusion

King has put together a valuable reference tool that should be included on the desk of every Web developer, designer and marketer. These procedures should help to make any Web site more effective and profitable. Check it out before your competition does.

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

What is DoFollow? Is it worth to be campaigned? Bloggers are usually searching blog that have been applied DoFollow plugins by commenting on the specified blog, the reason is leverage their blog’s PR. By open NoFollow attribute on a blog, it means allowing Google crawler to trace link on the comment form, other words is Google make this as backlink. Why it should be Google? Because Google is the owner of Pagerank.

Actually blogger who applying DoFollow on his/her blog inserts banner like, U comment I Folow. But not each of them insert this banner, so if you want to check whether a blog applying DoFollow or not, here is a little trick:

You can make highlight on the name who leave comment on a blog, right click on the highlighted area and click view selection source. You can see the highlighted area and take your attention to rel=”external” if the specified blog using DoFollow and rel=”external no follow” if this blog doesn’t use DoFollow.

The Trick to Increase Google Pagerank

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

In the early of PageRank (PR) birth, PR is one of the indicators of success or not a website. Website which has a high PageRank got special value to Google, PR can also be said of 3 months achievement report of certain website that scored by other website. This time the situation is changing, gradually PR is not so attractive anymore and be an indicator, because of not every site that has high PR will has tons of traffic al at once. As example is my blog with PR2 and JohnChow’s blog with PR3 has big different in visitor’s number, besides Google kick PR of a blog that participate in the program like Text Link Ads (TLA) and Paid to Review (PTR) is a factor people don’t like PR as indicator of blog success. People are more like to use Alexa rank as measurement of blog success.

PageRank is calculated with Google algorithm that seems so complicated, but the core is the number of backlink, either incoming link or outgoing link. The comparison is incoming link have to be more higher than outgoing link, when this is reached will causing PR going higher.

By observing those facts above, we can make a trick with this PR matter, that is creating so many incoming links as we can into our blog. there are various ways can be done, but the effective ones is by leave a comment on other blogs, and the comment’s blog using do follow rules. Do follow will make commentator’s blog address be indexed by Google.

To get to know the blog using do follow or not can be done by seeing the blog’s source code like this for do follow blog, or using search status by activate Highlight No follow Links to see no follow links automatically.

When you leave a comment on others blog you have to remember to leave your blog URL address (like http://www.albachtimi.com) and try to comment naturally and relates to the content. Don’t leave comment more than 3 times on one article because this will assume as spam. You have to read my other tips and trick to maximize your blog ability. Just wait and see.
